Practice Areas and Experience
Leland has been a trial lawyer for more than ten years. In that time, he has
represented both plaintiffs and defendants in a vast array of complex civil
matters. Complex litigation requires a lawyer with experience handling large
cases. United States Supreme Court Chief Justice Warren E. Burger said, “The
courtrooms of America all too often have Piper Cub advocates trying to handle
the controls of Boeing 747 litigation.” Leland's experience and diversity in the
types of cases he handles provide his clients with a skilled, competent and
dedicated litigator managing their case.
His diverse experience includes handling cases stemming from environmental
contamination and exposure to complex commercial disputes. His broad and
thorough background in litigation also includes cases involving wrongful death,
catastrophic injuries, civil rights violations, and insurance disputes.
He regularly represents clients in employment, product liability, personal injury
and medical malpractice actions. His clients include individuals, families,
property owners as well as corporations.
Specific examples of his extensive legal experience include:
• Obtaining critical evidence necessary to secure a large settlement in a
multi-plaintiff civil rights suit
• Securing several significant trial verdicts and settlements for individuals
and families injured by medical negligence
• Successfully prosecuting a multi-plaintiff environmental contamination
claim on behalf of homeowners and property owners
• Successfully defending a manufacturing company in a breach of contract
case
• Defeating federal preemption and obtaining a significant settlement for an
injured worker
